18 pupils from Mutero High School were injured when the combi they were traveling in from Harare overturned at Munyathi River. According to Mashonaland East Police Spokesperson Simon Chazovachii, the students are currently being transported to Chivhu Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported the chaos that ensued as the accident unfolded. “It all happened so fast,” said one witness, “we heard a loud crash and rushed to the scene to find the combi overturned, with students scattered around.”
However, reports indicate that the response to the accident was hindered by delays in medical assistance. Witnesses noted that the ambulance took considerable time to arrive at the scene, prompting private vehicles to step in and ferry the injured students to the hospital.
The condition of the students remains unknown at this time, as medical personnel work tirelessly to provide them with the necessary care. As investigations into the cause of the accident are underway, authorities are urging for vigilance and caution on the roads, particularly during this period of heightened transportation activities.
