A 25-year-old man from Corncopia farm in Chief Ngezi’s area, Chegutu, was allegedly caught naked in the middle of the night engaging in inappropriate activities with a cow in the owners’ kraal.
Chief Prosecutor in Chief Ngezi’s court, Mr. George Murungweni (54), stated that the man found was Elias Mabasa.
Murungweni said Mabasa admitted to his wrongdoing.
“Elias Mabasa from Chief Ngezi’s area in Chegutu left his home in Ward 23 and went to Headman Maregedze’s area in Ward 20 at Corncopia farm. He was found naked in the owners’ kraal in the middle of the night. Upon being caught, he confessed to having intercourse with the cow, leading to his appearance before our Chief Ngezi’s court,” Murungweni explained.
After reviewing the case, Chief Ngezi, Mr. Peter Pasipamire, and other elders decided to refer the matter to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for further investigation.
“We agreed with Chief Ngezi that it is a serious offense both to the nation and to our traditional court customs for someone to engage in such acts with animals. We issued a summons for him to appear in Chief Ngezi’s court to resolve this matter and to determine his punishment for desecrating our area,” Murungweni said.
Chief Ngezi stated that Mabasa’s actions were a severe offense in their area and could result in a fine of two cows and a goat to be consumed by the community.
“What this man did is an abomination that can prevent rainfall, so we are waiting for the police to complete their investigation. If he is imprisoned, we will discuss with his family to pay the fine, and the goat will be used for a community feast,” Chief Ngezi said.
Mashonaland West police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, said they need time to follow up on the case.
