Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is intensifying its search for armed robbers who made off with a staggering US$4 million in a cash-in-transit heist last week in Bulawayo. The audacious robbery, which took place in broad daylight, has left the nation in shock and raised serious concerns about security in cash transport operations.
As Zimbabweans grapple with the magnitude of the theft, social media has been flooded with speculation and false information, potentially hampering ongoing investigations. In response, ZRP National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi has urged the public to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified reports.
“I want to assure Zimbabwe that the ZRP is still conducting investigations, and the public should not panic,” said Commissioner Nyathi. “We are following up on leads, and at the same time, we appeal to the public to provide us with any information. It is clear this was a well-planned operation.”
The ZRP is working closely with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) in their efforts to apprehend the suspects. Despite rampant rumors on social media, Commissioner Nyathi dispelled claims that the robbers have been caught, warning against the spread of misinformation.
“We also want to caution the public against speculating,” Nyathi said. “False information, like what we’ve seen on social media, is not only misleading but could jeopardize the investigation.”
