NetOne has officially launched its network services in Matjinge, Bulilima District, in a move aimed at improving digital connectivity and expanding communication access in Matabeleland South.

Speaking during the official launch, NetOne Group Chief Executive Officer Engineer Raphael Mushanawani said the occasion marked “a historic day for Matjinge” and described it as “a day of inclusion” and “a day of restoration of dignity.”

“Today, Bulilima is no longer on the margins of the digital revolution Bulilima is now connected to the heartbeat of modern Zimbabwe,” he said.

The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Dingumuzi Phuti, government officials, traditional leaders, councillors, community leaders and residents.

The CEO praised Hon. Phuti for his commitment to digital inclusion, saying his presence at the event showed that “the Second Republic is serious about ensuring that no community and no citizen is left behind.”

As NetOne celebrates 30 years of operations, the company said it remains focused on transforming lives through connectivity, especially in rural communities.

“This is not just a network tower. This is a bridge of opportunity,” the CEO said.

He explained that the new base station will allow learners to access online lessons, help farmers receive weather and market updates in real time, support entrepreneurs in marketing their products and improve communication during emergencies at rural clinics.

The NetOne chief said the development aligns with Government’s Vision 2030 agenda under President Emmerson Mnangagwa, which seeks to ensure development reaches every community across the country.

He also urged residents to protect the telecommunications infrastructure from vandalism.

“Vandalism is not a small crime. It is economic sabotage. It is an attack on community development. It is an attack on Vision 2030,” he said.

The CEO called on traditional leaders, churches, youths and community members to safeguard the infrastructure and report any suspicious activities near the base station.

“Because this tower is more than steel and cables. It represents hope. It represents progress. It represents inclusion,” he said.

He reaffirmed NetOne’s commitment to connecting every Zimbabwean regardless of location, adding that every citizen deserves equal access to communication and digital opportunities.

“Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo. Ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo. A nation is built by its owners,” he said.

The launch of the Matjinge base station is expected to improve communication services and open up new economic and educational opportunities for the Bulilima community.
