State-owned mobile network operator NetOne has stepped up its support for Zimbabwe’s National Drug and Substance Abuse Awareness Campaign, calling on all sectors of society to work together in protecting young people from the dangers of drug and substance abuse.

The campaign encourages families, schools, churches, community leaders, businesses and government institutions to play an active role in building a drug-free society and safeguarding the future of the country’s youth.

NetOne Public Relations Manager, Ernest Magadzire, said drug and substance abuse is a challenge that affects the entire community and requires a united response.

“Drug and substance abuse is not an individual problem; it is a societal challenge that requires collective action from families, communities, institutions and corporate citizens,” said Magadzire.

He said empowering young people with information, opportunities and positive alternatives is key to reducing substance abuse.

“Our message is simple: every young person deserves the opportunity to learn, innovate, create and prosper. By working together, we can build stronger families, safer communities and a brighter future for Zimbabwe,” he said.

The awareness campaign encourages parents and guardians to communicate openly with their children, offer guidance and provide support during difficult times.

Schools are being urged to educate and inspire learners, while churches are encouraged to promote values and hope among young people. Community leaders have been called upon to lead by example, businesses to invest in youth development and government institutions to strengthen policies and support systems that protect vulnerable groups.

Magadzire said the private sector has an important role to play in complementing government efforts through awareness programmes and community initiatives.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, NetOne remains committed to supporting programmes that promote healthy lifestyles, positive choices and national development. A drug-free youth population is essential for a prosperous Zimbabwe,” he said.

The campaign also warns about the harmful effects of drug abuse, noting that it can destroy dreams, break families and limit educational and economic opportunities.

Young people are being encouraged to reject drugs and instead focus on education, innovation, entrepreneurship and healthy lifestyles as Zimbabwe works towards achieving Vision 2030.

Through the campaign, NetOne is reinforcing the message that protecting children and creating a drug-free Zimbabwe is a shared responsibility that requires the participation of every sector of society.
