KWEKWE – Kwekwe Ward 1 councillor Alex Senge has appeared before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court facing allegations of repeatedly raping a Form Four student.

Senge, a local politician, was reportedly arrested and detained at Garandichauya Police Station in Mbizo before being brought before the court.

The prosecution alleges that the incidents occurred while the complainant was a student at Kwekwe High School.

According to the allegations presented in court, the girl later contracted a sexually transmitted infection.

The prosecution further alleges that Senge gave the complainant a smartphone and a new SIM card in an attempt to persuade her to remain silent about the alleged sexual offences.

The complainant’s identity has been withheld in line with legal and ethical protections afforded to minors involved in sexual offence cases.

Senge’s case has attracted public attention because he is an elected councillor serving in the Kwekwe local authority.

The allegations are yet to be tested in court, and Senge is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Further proceedings are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the allegations and the evidence presented by the prosecution.
