The 2023 edition of the Zim Hip Hop awards was filled with mixed emotions and high tension as expectations were not met from both sides. Some artists felt they were robbed whilst others acknowledged the stamp of authority printed on their stupendous work by the organization.
The event was attended by the likes of Holy Ten Natasha Muz,YouNG Gemini,Dough Major,RPeels,Millz Milliom ,Leon Mwana waJoze among others.
One of the most remarkable takeaways from this year’s event was the infiltration of gospel hip hop into the mainstream circles. One gospel artist Leon Mwana waJoze was nominated on two categories Best Gospel Act and Best Social impact he further went on to win the Best Gospel whilst Voltz JT claimed the Best Social impact which raised a lot of eyebrows
Other Best gospel nominees were Chief Capone,Churchboy,Reap3r and Jason Gwanzura.
The gospel hip hop team performed two songs…Trust by Red.iam as well as Ma1 anenge atanga produced by Rayobeats…The performance was electric and ended by encouraging people to Repent as Jesus is coming , another good takeaway which this type of genre brought into the mainstream.
In his acceptance speech Leon dedicated the award to his brother and friend Rayobeats who is the man behind the success of his Grateful Ep…
He further said ,He reached and insisted that we were to work on the project despite the challenging times , he also dedicated the award to all believers and to Heavenly Outbreak..a family of Urban Christian Creatives to whom he is part of.
