Winky D’s five freestyle lines has gotten many politicians talking about them including , Jonathan Moyo and Themba Mliswa. In the freestyle he alleges that radio stations sabotaged his music and Holy Ten rejected his message.

The social commentary has been viewed by hungry politicians like prof Jonathan Moyo who is desperate to seek an opportunity to come back home as a way to support the government and gain relevance.

The lines say:

“Mumwe oti ndakahwinha, umwe oti wakabvuta;
Vari kuona Mbuya Nehanda vari muguta;
Ndakatsikisa dambarefu Eureka Eureka;
PaRadio voramba voti iro ridza wega;
Ndakati vanotora zvevapfupi nekureba;
Umwe woiramba hanzi iyo wakaimba wega.”

While the prof alleges that Winky D is risking , others do not go well with it. In another publication it says:

Attempts to gag popular dancehall artists Wallace Chirumiko also known as Winky D by some media practitioners and social media influencers like @caesarzvayi and @ProfJNMoyo is a serous impediment on the fundamental right of freedom of expression, one of the major grievances that led to war of liberation.

Freedom of expression is an indispensable element and a cornerstone in the development of a democratic society. It enables citizens to participate in the political process, voice their concerns and hold their governments accountable. In the same vein through song, artists can also freely express their political views, criticize government policies and contribute to the formation of public opinion as long as there is no incitement to violence in the content of their music.

Other fans of Winky D had this to say:

The definition of entertainment @ProfJNMoyo depends with the base !Just like the content in animal farm by George Orwell so are the lyrics in the music.The imagery is what haunts those dictators regardless of which country. Same lyrics are applicable to sports ,etc.The state is only frustrated that this particular artist @winkydonline is a brand who doesn’t bootlick zanupf !

This does pass for entertainment, not top-drawer stuff but mundane political entertainment with no political value or mileage in the scheme of things; and to be sure, it’s not music even by the poorest of standards; but truth be told, uku kurisker mahara!

This is not new to many of his fans as Zanu PF individual members have always reiterated that they condone the music of Winky D.
