In the wake of a tragic bus accident in Louis Trichardt, Limpopo, the Zimbabwean government has announced that it will cover the costs of repatriating the bodies of the deceased.
The accident, which occurred on August 30, 2024, claimed the lives of 10 Zimbabwean nationals and left 35 others injured.
The bus, which was en route to Johannesburg, veered off the road and overturned, resulting in the devastating loss of life. Emergency services responded swiftly, but the severity of the accident meant that many lives could not be saved.
In a statement, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that the government would handle all repatriation logistics. “We are committed to ensuring that our citizens are brought back home with dignity and respect,” the minister said.
The repatriation process is expected to begin immediately, with coordination between South African and Zimbabwean authorities to expedite the return of the bodies. The injured are receiving medical treatment in South African hospitals, and the government has also pledged to support their recovery.
