Harare, Zimbabwe – Tavimbanashe Chawatama (28) and Leonard Nyakudya (25) appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on charges of sodomy.

The State alleges that the two men entered into a relationship in August 2023, during which they lived together and engaged in consensual same-sex relations.

It is further alleged that they occasionally recorded their activities using their mobile phones.

The case came to light on August 27, 2024, following an altercation between the two men. The first accused, Chawatama, accused Nyakudya of infidelity, leading to a heated argument.

Nyakudya decided to move out of their shared residence, but as he was preparing to leave, Chawatama discovered that his money was missing.

In an attempt to resolve the issue of the missing money, the two men involved the police. During their explanation to the authorities, they inadvertently disclosed details of their relationship and activities, leading to their arrest on sodomy charges.

Both accused were granted bail set at USD 50 each, and the case has been remanded to September 6, 2024.
