Former Chegutu West Member of Parliament, Dexter Nduna, has been denied bail following his appearance in court on fraud charges. Nduna, 53, who was remanded in custody on Monday, faced the Chegutu Magistrates Court again today, where the ruling on his bail application was handed down.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) alleges that Nduna illegally collected parking fees from motorists, falsely claiming to be acting on behalf of the Chegutu Municipality. The court heard that he misrepresented himself to benefit from the proceeds, a charge that could have significant legal consequences.

Nduna’s legal team had hoped for bail, but the magistrate ruled against it, citing concerns over potential interference with witnesses and the gravity of the allegations. The case has generated significant public interest, given Nduna’s previous role as a legislator and the serious nature of the charges.

Nduna remains in custody and is expected to return to court as the trial proceeds.
