The Gwanda Fire Brigade faced significant challenges in their efforts to extinguish a blaze that engulfed a Toyota Runx vehicle on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred just outside Gwanda town center, near the NSSA complex along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.

According to The Chronicle, the firefighting team found themselves in a dire situation when their rear water pump malfunctioned, rendering them unable to efficiently combat the fire. In a desperate and resourceful attempt to contain the inferno, they resorted to using a small dish supplied by a well-meaning bystander.

The firefighters improvised further by utilizing a suction hose to draw water into the dish, a move that only exacerbated the frustration of onlookers, who could do little more than watch as the flames continued to spread uncontrollably.

The vehicle, which had been traveling from Beitbridge to Gwanda, is suspected to have suffered a mechanical failure. Reports indicate that the driver enlisted the help of a mechanic to address the issue, but tragically, the vehicle ignited while the repairs were underway, leading to the devastating fire.
