FIFA has ruled in favor of former Ngezi Platinum Stars head coach Benjani Mwaruwari, ordering the club to pay him a staggering US$600,000 in compensation for what has been deemed an unfair dismissal.
Mwaruwari, a former Zimbabwean international, was sacked in July 2022 after just 13 matches in charge, during which Ngezi Platinum registered three wins, six draws, and four losses. Unwilling to accept the decision without a fight, he escalated the matter to FIFA, which has now ruled in his favor.
The verdict was delivered this week, and both Mwaruwari and the club have been formally notified. This latest ruling adds to Ngezi Platinum’s legal woes, as the club is still contesting a previous FIFA decision that awarded Mwaruwari’s former assistant, Bongani Mafu, US$200,000 in a similar case last year.
With the appeal in Mafu’s case still unresolved, Ngezi Platinum now faces significant financial strain, raising questions about the club’s handling of contractual disputes and managerial appointments.
As of now, the club has not issued an official statement regarding the FIFA ruling, but the financial implications could have a lasting impact on their future operations.
