As of March 14, 2025, Facebook has expanded its monetization options for creators by introducing the ability to earn revenue from public Stories. This new feature is available globally to creators enrolled in Facebook’s Content Monetization program.
With this update, creators can generate income from content they are already producing by sharing it as public Stories. For example, snippets from short-form videos, Reels, or personal updates can be posted to Stories, and earnings are based on the performance of this content. Notably, there is no specific view threshold required before creators can start earning; payouts are directly tied to content performance.
This move is part of Facebook’s broader strategy to attract more content creators, especially in light of competition from platforms like TikTok. In 2024, Facebook reported that creators earned over $2 billion on the platform, with revenue from Reels and other short-form videos increasing by more than 80%.
Creators already participating in the Content Monetization program do not need to take additional steps to activate Story monetization. For those not yet in the program, Facebook plans to offer open enrollment later this year, and interested creators can express their interest through Facebook’s monetization platform.
This expansion underscores Facebook’s commitment to providing diverse revenue streams for creators and enhancing content creation on the platform.
