Armed robbery at Alpha Omega Farm in Marondera, Zimbabwe; the parents of Lucy ‘Lulu’ Muteke were reportedly robbed of approximately US$75,000.
The stolen funds are believed to be part of the lobola (bride price) paid by businessman Wicknell Chivayo for his wife, Lulu.
The robbery, involving a group of up to 19 armed men, occurred early this morning, and authorities are actively investigating the incident.
Chivayo’s lobola payment has been a topic of national discussion due to its unprecedented amount.
Reports indicate that he paid a staggering US$300,000, setting a new record in Zimbabwe’s history. The ceremony was a lavish affair, featuring top local artists and elaborate decorations, reflecting Chivayo’s flamboyant personality and immense wealth.
Prior to the ceremony, Chivayo had publicly expressed his intention to pay the full dowry upfront, emphasising his desire to expedite the process.
He also mentioned additional gifts, including five cattle and a purebred bull valued between US$8,000 and US$9,000, to bolster the Muteke family’s herd.
