War Vets Houses

Houses for war veterans are rapidly taking shape across Zimbabwe, with several completed in urban areas as part of a nationwide initiative to provide better accommodation for the country’s liberation heroes.

These newly constructed three-bedroom houses are equipped with solar-powered boreholes and are set to benefit thousands of veterans through the Presidential War Veterans Rural Housing Scheme, which complements other ongoing housing efforts.

The initiative aims to offer war veterans not only decent housing but also ensure their participation in solar energy programmes.

Dr Paul Tungwarara, Special Presidential Investment Adviser and architect of the successful War Veterans Fund, highlighted the significance of the houses as a reflection of the veterans’ vital role in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.

Despite some initial scepticism and unfounded criticism when the project began, Dr Tungwarara affirmed that the houses are exactly what war veterans will receive.

He explained that two housing designs have been developed, one for urban areas and another for rural settings.

War veterans are eagerly anticipating the programme, with many already benefiting from the Presidential War Veterans Fund, which aims to leave no one behind.
