The Hatfield Lioness Scholarship at Durham University is designed for female students from eligible developing countries who wish to pursue a full-time taught master’s degree.
This scholarship aims to offer educational opportunities to women from regions where access to higher education is limited, enabling them to undertake postgraduate studies at Durham University.
Host Institution(s): Hatfield College, Durham University
Level/Field(s) of Study: Full-time master’s degree in any field, excluding MBA, PhD, and research master’s programmes.

Scholarship Benefits: The scholarship will cover the following for one academic year:
- Full tuition fee payment for the university
- A stipend for living expenses
- Fully funded, self-catered, single accommodation in a mixed housing arrangement at Hatfield College
- One return economy flight from the student’s home country to the UK, plus travel costs between the UK airport and Durham City
- A settling-in allowance upon arrival
- Payment for the UK visa and health surcharge
Please note that the scholarship does not provide funding for dependants or additional travel during the scholarship period. The accommodation provided is for the scholarship holder only; dependants cannot be accommodated.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must have applied for and secured an unconditional offer for a master’s programme by June 2025.
- Applicants cannot be receiving any other scholarships to fund their postgraduate education.
- Applicants must identify as female.
- Applicants must be citizens of an eligible developing country (refer to the official website).
- Additional criteria include:
- Holding a relevant honours degree of adequate standard for their chosen master’s programme.
- Meeting all course entry requirements, including the necessary English language qualifications.
- Not already holding a master’s degree.
- Lacking the financial resources to study for a master’s degree in the UK.
Application Process: To apply, first submit an academic application for your selected master’s programme, noting your intent to apply for the Hatfield Lioness Scholarship.
Afterward, complete the separate scholarship application form once it becomes available. The deadline for scholarship applications is 31 March 2025.
