Zimbabwean billionaire and founder of Cassava Technologies, Strive Masiyiwa, is spearheading a major initiative to develop Africa’s first artificial intelligence (AI) factory.
The project is set to drive digital innovation across the continent in collaboration with Nvidia, a global leader in AI computing.
Cassava Technologies plans to incorporate Nvidia’s state-of-the-art AI software and processing capabilities into its data centres, with the first phase of the initiative expected to go live in South Africa by June 2025.
Looking ahead, the company aims to extend the project to other key markets, including Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria.
Masiyiwa has emphasised that this AI factory will be instrumental in integrating Africa into the global AI ecosystem.
By providing local businesses, startups, and researchers with cutting-edge technological resources, the initiative seeks to enhance Africa’s role in the rapidly evolving digital economy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
