A local resident has accused Chivi District Hospital of negligence and lack of compassion following a disturbing incident last week in which a loved one suffered due to delayed and dismissive care from hospital staff.
The incident reportedly occurred after the individual returned home for a family emergency and sought urgent medical assistance for a seriously ill relative.
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the ordeal began when they rushed their loved one to Chivi District Hospital in the evening, only to be told that no further medical attention could be provided until the following morning.
“Recently, I had to travel back home due to a family emergency,” the individual recounted. “A loved one had fallen seriously ill. In the rush and desperation of the moment, we took them to the nearest hospital. The patient was admitted, but we were told that since it was late, nothing more could be done until the following morning.”
According to the resident, the next day brought more distress as they encountered what they described as dismissive behavior from nursing staff.
“A nurse gave us a list of what the patient would need. I accidentally left it behind and when I came back for it, the senior nurse on duty looked at me and said, ‘You left the list. What exactly do you want now?’”
The emotionally charged situation escalated later that evening. During a routine visit, the family was shocked to find blood pooled on the floor beneath the patient’s bed.
“I panicked and looked for a nurse, but the woman who cooks at the hospital told me they were busy,” the resident said. “I ended up using a towel to apply pressure and stop the bleeding something I had only seen on TV.”
Eventually, medical staff responded and appeared alarmed by the extent of blood loss. Although they began to act, the family believes the delay had already taken a toll.
“What hurts the most is not just what happened, but how it happened. The coldness. The delay. The neglect. Chivi Hospital failed us that day,” the resident said. “And we are not the only ones.”
This incident adds to a growing list of complaints from patients and families about poor service and indifference at the facility. Community members are calling for urgent reforms and greater accountability from the hospital’s management.
Hospitals are meant to offer care and comfort in moments of vulnerability. When healthcare workers lose sight of that duty, the consequences are not just medical—they are deeply human.
