Popular gospel musician Darlington “Mambo Dhuterere” Mutseta is at the center of a domestic storm, following reports that he has left the family home, abandoning his eight-month-pregnant wife, Dorcas Vambe, and their four children. The couple’s marriage, once viewed as a model union in gospel circles, appears to be in crisis, with sources citing a pending fraud case involving Vambe as the tipping point.

Dhuterere, who recently performed in the United Kingdom at the SAMA Festival, declined to comment on the issue when approached by local media, only saying, “Don’t mind them.” His last public mention of his wife was in November, when he posted a birthday message calling her “Queen.” Since then, reports suggest that communication and support between the couple have deteriorated significantly.

In a brief phone interview, Vambe confirmed the separation, expressing concern for the welfare of their children and her own health. She stated that the musician left their Harare apartment and has not returned, adding that she has kept quiet about the abuse and emotional strain for years. Sources close to the family say the situation has become increasingly unstable, particularly as Vambe nears delivery.

According to those familiar with the matter, Dhuterere’s behavior reportedly changed after learning of his wife’s pregnancy. The situation worsened following her December 2024 arrest in connection with an alleged US$16,000 fraud case, which is currently before the Harare Magistrates’ Court. The case, involving claims of a botched car deal, is said to have deepened the rift between the two.

Adding to the turmoil, Vambe’s rented apartment was recently broken into, with thieves making off with a laptop and cellphone. Though she recovered her passport, the break-in has reportedly left her shaken. To stay afloat, she is now selling detergents, while sources claim Dhuterere has moved to an undisclosed location with his travel documents. The couple’s troubles follow previous reports in 2023 that Dhuterere battled depression linked to personal scandals.
