Alexander Tapiwa Kaseke

A 28-year-old commuter omnibus driver, Alexander Tapiwa Kaseke, has been sentenced to two years behind bars and disqualified from driving for the next 24 months following a reckless driving incident in central Harare.

The incident occurred on April 29, 2025, when Kaseke was reversing a Nissan Caravan along Robert Mugabe Road, near Angwa Street, and spotted police officers approaching.

In a panic, he leapt from the still-moving vehicle, which then veered off course and collided with a traffic light pole.

The impact caused the pole to topple, damaging two stationary vehicles, a Kia Picanto and a Honda Fit.

Although no one was injured, both parked cars sustained considerable damage. Kaseke, who holds a valid driver’s license, was convicted of reckless driving.

He received a 36-month prison sentence, with 12 months conditionally suspended for five years, and had his license cancelled. He will not be allowed to drive for two years.
