A menacing Victoria Falls car thief and burglar, Leeroy Mengezi (19), has been denied bail after facing seven counts of car theft and two cases of unlawful entry.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA) said the nineteen-year-old offender is also wanted in connection with escaping from lawful custody.

Mengezi of Monde village has been arraigned before the Victoria Falls Magistrate’s Court, facing 10 criminal charges, including seven counts of motor vehicle theft, two counts of aggravated unlawful entry, and one count of escaping from lawful custody.”

“The court denied him bail, and he has been remanded in custody pending trial, which is set for 13 May 2025,” said NPA.

Court records indicate that Mengezi committed the offences between October 2024 and March 2025.
“The accused stole seven vehicles, mostly with the Honda Fit make, across Victoria Falls, and often dumped them after valuables like cash, car radios, and flash drives,” said NPA.

NPA said he is also accused of breaking into homes and stealing money and clothing material.
“While detained by police, Mengezi escaped custody after pretending to be ill but was arrested on 5 May 2025. Some stolen property has since been recovered.”
