Prominent businessman Joseph Mutangadura, popularly known as Mtangaz, was shot dead by suspected robbers at his Lisheen Estate farmhouse in Ruwa on Wednesday night.

Investigations show that seven men raided the farmhouse under unclear circumstances and confronted Mutangadura. The suspects reportedly demanded money from the businessman, who owned Lisheen Estate, the Mutangadura Hideout, several butcheries, and other businesses.

Sources said Mutangadura told the robbers that he had no cash on him and that the day’s takings were kept at the abattoir. The suspects then shot him once in the stomach before firing several more rounds into his chest.

Police reports indicate that more than five bullets struck the businessman before the robbers fled the scene. No arrests have been made so far.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the shooting in an interview. “I am still waiting for the details of the case and will soon issue a comprehensive statement on what transpired,” he said.

Following the incident, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Homicide section in Harare were dispatched to the farm. The team is conducting investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Mutangadura’s death has sent shockwaves through the Ruwa community, where he was widely known as a businessman with investments in farming, retail, and hospitality. His Lisheen Estate was a well-recognised landmark in the area.

Police have urged anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
