Zimbabwean man, Evans Sivechere, 29, who is a director of Diamond Migration (PTY) Ltd, was arrested by Botswana Police on Sunday, 22 November 2025 at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport and has been remanded on 11 counts of fraud, police said.
Police said Sivechere, who operates the company in Gaborone, was arraigned before the Village Magistrate Court on 25 November 2025.
According to the charge sheet, between October last year and 23 October 2025 the accused and his company allegedly defrauded 11 individuals of a cumulative amount exceeding P240,000.00. The money was taken under the pretext that the company was securing employment opportunities abroad and processing work permits on behalf of the applicants.
The media release says victims reportedly submitted all the required documents and payments, only to later discover that they had been swindled when the promised jobs never materialised.
The fraudulent promises reportedly involved job placements in several countries, including Ireland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, the Republic of Luxembourg, the Republic of Finland, the Republic of Poland and Greece.
Police investigators told the press that “additional charges may be forthcoming as investigations continue.” The release also states that the accused has since been remanded in prison and is expected to reappear before court on 1 December 2025.
In the statement, the Botswana Police Service urged the public “to remain vigilant when engaging with migration or recruitment agencies, and to verify the legitimacy of entities before making payments.”
