A large consignment of counterfeit, substandard, and underweight goods confiscated by the Anti-Smuggling Taskforce was destroyed at the Geo Pomona Waste Management site on Tuesday as part of ongoing efforts to protect consumers from illegal and hazardous products.

“We have seen a sudden proliferation of counterfeit and substandard products, expired goods, and underweight items. This operation is meant to safeguard consumers,” said Mr. Mudereri.
He further highlighted that many of these goods pose serious health risks, prompting the CPC to partner with Geo Pomona to ensure their proper disposal.
Harare Metropolitan Province’s Anti-Smuggling Taskforce Coordinator, Mr. Tawedzera Muwani, stressed the importance of transparency in handling confiscated goods.
“This is just the beginning. We want to show clear evidence that smuggled, illegal, and substandard goods will be destroyed and will not find their way back into the market,” he stated.
Mr. Muwani acknowledged the support of various government agencies, including the City of Harare, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, CPC, and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), in ensuring the success of the operation.
