Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan were crowned winners of Love Island series 11 during Monday night’s final, leaving fans stunned. Many had expected Nicole Young and Ciaran Davies to take the top spot, but Mimii and Josh came out on top, making history as the first Black couple to ever win the show.
The voting results, released shortly after the final, showed that Mimii and Josh won with 41% of the public vote, just ahead of Nicole and Ciaran, who received 35%. The third-place couple, Matilda and Sean, earned 14% of the vote, while Jessica and Ayo finished in fourth with 10%.
Mimii, whose parents are from Zimbabwe, expressed her surprise and joy at their historic win. “I’m so shocked about it. It’s nice. Hopefully, it will set pace for more diverse representation. It’s overwhelming, but in the best possible way,” she said. Josh also shared his pride, adding, “To be able to help balance the scales for greater representation is great. We’re just happy to make history.”
Reflecting on their time in the villa, Mimii called the experience “surreal” and thanked everyone for their support. Josh echoed her feelings, saying, “It still hasn’t sunk in. I’m happy and thankful for all the love and support.”
Now that they’re out of the villa, Mimii and Josh are looking forward to continuing their relationship in the real world. Mimii is excited about dates to museums and theatres, while Josh is eager to take her to some of his favorite restaurants.
Their win is being celebrated not just for their love story, but also for the impact it has on representation and diversity in reality TV. Fans are now eagerly watching to see what’s next for the couple as they step into their new life together.
