Zimdancehall musician Gift Hombarume, known by his stage name Chillmaster, remains entangled in legal trouble as the High Court prepares to review his sentencing.
He was earlier found guilty of culpable homicide after he struck and killed a pedestrian, Custon Charumbira, while driving without a license on April 9, 2025.
Although he was handed a two-year prison term, the sentence was wholly suspended on condition he performs community service, avoids further offences for five years, and pays a US$200 fine.
The review, to be overseen by Judge President Mary Zimba-Dube, will consider whether the leniency of the initial ruling reflects the gravity of the offence.
Despite Chillmaster’s remorse and financial support to the victim’s family, the court will reassess if the punishment was proportionate to the harm caused.
