ZCstreets : Diaz Matangira, the son of Bindura South legislator Remigious Toendepi Matangira, was recently involved in a court case following a road rage incident.
On September 16, 2024, Diaz Matangira was driving his father’s Ford Ranger Raptor along Lomagundi Road in Harare when he confronted Arnold Musengi, an off-duty soldier from the Zimbabwe National Army, accusing him of blocking his way. In the heat of the moment, Matangira pointed a pistol at Musengi and threatened to shoot him.
Musengi pursued Matangira and, with the help of other motorists, managed to block his vehicle. Upon confrontation, Musengi recovered a 9mm Luger Grand Power pistol from Matangira’s car, which was loaded with one live round.
Matangira was subsequently arrested, and the firearm, registered in his father’s name, was sent for forensic examination.
In court, Diaz Matangira pleaded guilty to the charge of pointing a firearm. Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo fined him US$400, with an alternative of four months’ imprisonment if the fine is not paid by November 4, 2024.
Additionally, he received a two-month suspended sentence on the condition that he does not commit a similar offense within the next five years.
