Among the five, four were minors under 18, and one was 19 years old. They were found guilty of aggravated indecent assault, cyberbullying, unlawful detention, and assault, all of which took place on July 4th in Wedza.
The 19-year-old, Vimbai Mike, and a 17-year-old who is married with two children, were each sentenced to five years in prison for indecent assault. They also received an additional year for cyberbullying, another year for unlawful detention, and one more year for assault, but these additional sentences will run concurrently with the five-year term.
The three other minors were not given prison sentences but were warned that they must not commit a similar crime for the next five years.
The five were accused of stripping and beating a fellow villager for an unknown reason until she lost consciousness. They recorded the incident and later posted it on social media, where it went viral, leading to their arrest.
