Preparations for Zimbabwe’s 45th Independence Day celebrations in Gokwe-Nembudziya are in full swing, with the district set to host a record-breaking event. Member of Parliament Flora Buka confirmed that over 600 youths have been employed in various infrastructure projects ahead of the national festivities. The celebrations, themed “Zim@45: Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030,” will bring dignitaries and guests from across all 10 provinces.
Cde Buka expressed excitement over the rapid developments taking place, emphasizing that all key facilities, including roads, stadiums, and schools, are nearing completion. The main event on April 18 will be preceded by a children’s party on April 17 at Nyamuroro Primary School, where significant renovations have already been made. The Independence Gala venue is also undergoing major improvements, ensuring a seamless experience for all attendees.
Vice President Kembo Mohadi led an inter-ministerial delegation last week to assess the progress at Mutora Business Centre and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing civil works. He commended the infrastructural developments, particularly the road upgrades, highlighting that “where there are no roads, there is no development.” The government is ensuring that feeder roads and other key infrastructure are completed on time.
Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Owen Ncube revealed that the projects are 70 percent complete, with contractors now working around the clock to meet deadlines. Funds have been disbursed to accelerate construction, and the business community is also upgrading their premises in anticipation of the thousands of visitors expected. “We are ready to host our guests, and Gokwe-Nembudziya will turn out in huge numbers,” Buka assured.
The decision to host Independence Day in Gokwe aligns with the government’s devolution policy, shifting national celebrations across different provinces to promote inclusive development. In previous years, such events were centralized in Harare, but under the Second Republic, communities nationwide are now benefiting from infrastructure development tied to these national milestones. With final touches underway, all eyes are on Gokwe-Nembudziya as it prepares to make history.
