Harare Magistrate Mr. Tapiwa Banda has removed gospel artist Dorcas Vambe, popularly known as Mai Dhuterere, from remand in a high-profile fraud case involving US$16,000. Vambe, the wife of gospel sensation Mambo Dhuterere, had been facing allegations related to a failed vehicle deal with a local politician.

The case stems from an incident in September last year, where Vambe and her brother allegedly assured the complainant that they could source a Toyota Hilux GD6 from Botswana. The politician, trusting the offer, reportedly handed over US$16,000 for the purchase.

However, the vehicle was never delivered, prompting the complainant to pursue legal action. The State has yet to provide substantial progress on the case, leading the magistrate to rule that any further prosecution must proceed by way of summons.

As it stands, the case has not been dismissed, but Vambe will no longer be required to appear in court unless the State reopens proceedings formally. The public now waits to see if prosecutors will move forward or quietly shelve the matter.
