The government has officially raised the retirement age for both the public service and uniformed forces, bringing significant changes to when members can retire.
In the public service, the pensionable retirement age has been extended from 65 to 70 years. Members of the uniformed forces, including the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), and Prisons and Health Services, will now serve longer as well.
For regular soldiers, the retirement age has increased from 50 to 55 years, with the possibility of extending to 60 years. War veterans in the military can further extend their service to 65 years.
Meanwhile, commissioned officers in the ZDF will now retire at 65 but have the option to serve until the age of 70.
These changes ensure longer service periods and accommodate members’ preferences to continue serving beyond the previous limits.
