HARARE, Zimbabwe – Hatipere, has become a beacon of resilience and inspiration in the local fashion scene. The brand’s founder, who goes by the same name, has officially opened a new shop at Long Chen Plaza, offering a range of locally designed apparel.
Hatipere shared his journey on Twitter, recounting his experiences from college to becoming a successful entrepreneur. “In 2018, when I was in college, I realized I was already left alone since Mama had passed on the previous year and both of my sisters were married and living in a foreign land. I had to man up at 17,” he wrote.
During his challenging days in college, the phrase “Hatiperi” became more than just a statement for him—it was a powerful prayer and a daily motivator. Despite the hardships, including financial struggles and the emotional toll of losing his mother, Hatipere remained determined. He saved $50, which he used to order a few pieces of apparel from China and branded them with his unique infinity logo, designed by a local friend.
The initial phase was not without setbacks. The arrival of his first order was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, once the order finally arrived, the response from the community was overwhelming. People related to the message behind “Hatiperi” and quickly supported his budding business.
From humble beginnings, selling T-shirts and hoodies downtown, Hatipere’s brand has grown significantly. “I studied poverty and it taught me how to survive by all necessary means. We built this business and brand from zero without any funding. Seeding came from individuals who genuinely adored what I do and supported me,” he explained.
Now, Hatipere’s company employs 10-15 families, depending on the month, and has been officially registered for four years. Reflecting on his journey, he emphasizes the importance of perseverance and faith. “This journey has been full of tears, losses, stress, tears, joy, and sometimes wins. It took me close to six years to get the equation right at the start-up level,” he stated.
The opening of Hatipere’s shop at Long Chen Plaza marks a significant milestone for the designer and his brand. His story serves as a powerful reminder to “PUT GOD FIRST & NEVER GIVE UP. In God HATIPERI!”
