MARONDERA, ZIMBABWE – Investigative journalist Watson Munyaka, 38, was murdered in Marondera on March 17, 2025, in what his colleagues suspect was a targeted killing. Munyaka, a member of The Dugup, a network of investigative journalists, had been working on exposing high-level corruption before his death.

According to a press statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Munyaka was thrown out of a moving Toyota Fortuner along Fifth Street near a Chicken Inn drive-through at approximately 2:10 PM. He was rushed to Marondera Provincial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His associates believe his murder was linked to his investigative work, though authorities have not confirmed any leads. “Watson had been receiving threats in recent weeks,” a colleague from The Dugup told reporters. “He was working on something big, and now he’s gone.”

The ZRP has launched an investigation and is appealing to the public for information. “More details will be released in due course,” said Commissioner Nyathi P., the Chief Staff Officer for Press and Public Relations.
