An 18-year-old woman from Kadoma has been convicted for deliberately providing false information to authorities after she falsely reported a rape case to the police. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe confirmed the conviction in a news bulletin issued on June 5, 2025.

According to court proceedings, the teenager claimed on May 9, 2025, that she had been raped by an individual identified only as “Mupostori.” However, ten days later, on May 19, she recanted her statement, telling police that no rape had occurred. She admitted she had been assaulted after going through the man’s pockets and made the false report out of spite.

The Kadoma Magistrates’ Court sentenced the offender to six months in prison. Two months of the sentence were suspended for five years, while the remaining four months were suspended on condition she completes 140 hours of community service.

The National Prosecuting Authority emphasized its commitment to combating crime, stating that knowingly filing false reports undermines justice and wastes public resources. The case highlights the importance of truthful reporting and the consequences of abusing the legal system.
