A fundraising campaign to help rebuild the Domboshava home of exiled Zimbabwean music legend Thomas Mapfumo, which was destroyed by fire on September 23, 2024, has sparked mixed reactions.

The initiative, shared by former CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba, seeks to rally support for the iconic musician through a GoFundMe campaign. Siziba described it as an effort to help a national treasure restore his home after the unfortunate tragedy.

While the initiative has drawn support from some quarters, others have expressed reservations.

Pardon Magaya publicly criticized the campaign, questioning its priorities. He argued that Mapfumo, as an established figure living abroad, is better positioned than many impoverished Zimbabweans who struggle with basic necessities. “We have so many people who can’t afford food, clothes, or clean water. Why prioritize someone living overseas when there are children in rural areas without books?” Magaya commented.
