Podcast host MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho has issued a public apology to television personality Minnie Dlamini after facing heavy criticism for controversial remarks made on his show, Podcast and Chill.

The uproar began when MacG, alongside co-host Sol Phenduka, discussed Dlamini’s breakup with her former partner, Dr. Brian Monaisa. During the discussion, MacG made crude and personal comments speculating on the reasons behind her relationship issues.

His comments, which many deemed misogynistic and inappropriate, quickly went viral and sparked outrage across various platforms.

Critics included viewers, gender advocacy organisations, and media stakeholders.

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, condemned MacG’s remarks, saying they reflected a broader culture of online gender-based violence, not just poor taste or humour.

She described his words as a clear example of digital abuse against women, warning of the harm such rhetoric can cause in normalising disrespect and discrimination.

“Such statements are not just tasteless; they are a symptom of the larger issue of misogyny embedded in our digital culture,” Letsike stated.

She revealed that MacG may also face legal action from women who’ve been offended by his recurring patterns of behaviour.

Television channel Moja Love also distanced itself from the comments, releasing a statement calling MacG’s conduct unacceptable.

They criticised the consistent objectification of women on his platform and urged for a more respectful media environment that uplifts, rather than degrades, women.

Women For Change, a leading advocacy group, labelled MacG’s comments as “deeply misogynistic,” pointing out that such language contributes to a culture where women are belittled and undermined.

This isn’t the first time MacG has found himself in legal and ethical trouble. In late 2024, he faced an R13 million defamation lawsuit over claims he made about amapiano artist Nkosazana Daughter.

On his show, he alleged she had a child with Master KG, rather than with her partner at the time, Sir Trill. He later apologised when her family refuted the rumour, though he defended himself by saying the claims came from a reliable source.

In a recent podcast episode aired on May 12, MacG attempted to make amends for his remarks about Dlamini. He addressed the issue directly, expressing regret for causing offence and stating that his comments were not meant to hurt anyone.

“I want to sincerely apologise to all the women, especially our female listeners, who were hurt by what I said. That was never the intention,” he said.

He extended an invitation to Dlamini to join him on the podcast, suggesting that they use the platform to clear the air publicly.

“This whole thing started on the podcast. Let’s settle it here too. She said her part; I said mine; let’s just move forward,” he added.
