The man who accused two young women of stealing US$4,500 after a night out at the Mashwede show failed to appear at the Mbare court this morning. His absence raised questions about the case and left the court with no evidence to proceed.
As a result, the two women, Makanaka Mukundwa and Melissa Katiyo, were released unconditionally. They are now free, as the charges against them could not be pursued without the accuser’s presence.
The two ladies were arrested after a video circulated by Matrix security claimed that this man lost his US$4500 on the night they met. They however explained their side of the story which claims that he has made these allegations only to fix them.
In a long message he wrote
“I was robbed of $4,500 in a car at Kabza De Small’s show yesterday. The lady involved left her shoes and purse, as well as her friend’s. I also have a video of her—can you help trace her?
I was in the VIP section at the Mashwede event with Kabza and DJ Maphorisa. She joined me at my table. Later, we decided to shift to the bar and went to the car with her and her friend. I then remembered I needed to see someone before leaving. When I returned to the car, they were gone, leaving behind their shoes and handbags, but there was nothing in the bags. The money (US$4,500), which was in the dashboard, was missing.”
