The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) has announced a Class II recall of Torrent Captopril 25mg Tablets, batch number B520K001, due to a quality defect discovered during routine testing. The affected batch was manufactured by Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd in India.

According to MCAZ, the recall follows an Out-Of-Specification (OOS) result for Captopril disulfide, a compound critical to the medication’s quality and effectiveness. The defect may compromise the drug’s efficacy and pose a potential risk to patient safety.

The Authority has directed all licensed pharmaceutical wholesalers, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities to immediately quarantine and cease distribution of the identified batch. Members of the public who may have purchased the affected tablets are urged to return them to their pharmacy or directly to MCAZ.

In coordination with Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd and local distributors, the Authority is working to remove the defective batch from circulation. MCAZ reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the quality, safety, and effectiveness of all medicines available in Zimbabwe.
