Nyanga South MP Supa Mandiwanzira (ZANU PF) has suggested taxing Cambridge examination fees, arguing that the University of Cambridge profits significantly from Zimbabwe without contributing to the country.
He noted that Zimbabwe relied on Cambridge exams until 1995, when ZIMSEC was introduced, yet many parents still prefer Cambridge exams to enhance their children’s chances for international opportunities.
Speaking during the 2025 National Budget debate, Mandiwanzira claimed that Cambridge has earned billions of dollars in exam fees since independence in 1980 but has not invested in Zimbabwean schools or offered scholarships to local students. He proposed using this tax revenue to support education ministries and reduce reliance on the national budget.
Mandiwanzira emphasized the need to hold Cambridge accountable for benefiting from Zimbabwe’s education system without giving back.
