Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has officially removed Mac-Albert Hengari from his position as Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform, effective April 23, 2025.
This decision comes after Hengari’s arrest on a range of serious charges, including r*pe.
The minister, who was arrested on April 26, faces multiple allegations, such as r*pe, bribery, kidnapping, and attempting to pressure a minor into retracting a rape accusation.
The charges are linked to a case that was initially reported in November 2024, involving claims of s*xual assaults spanning from 2019 to 2024.
Despite Hengari’s submission of a resignation letter following his arrest, the Presidency clarified that the minister had been dismissed, explaining that his resignation had been expected but had not been formally submitted.
This move aligns with President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s commitment to maintaining ethical governance. However, some critics have raised concerns over the delay in her response before the formal charges were made public.
The case has sparked significant debate across the country, with political experts like Rui Tyitende urging for more thorough screening procedures for government officials.
Hengari has denied all accusations, calling them defamatory, and has agreed to take a paternity test. He faces 11 charges and is scheduled to stand trial.
