ZCnews : Vese vasingaone vazowanirwa nyasha vaakukwanisa kuona. Neuralink, the brain-chip startup founded by Elon Musk, has announced that its innovative Blindsight device has received the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Breakthrough Device Designation.
This significant milestone marks a major step forward in the quest to restore vision to individuals who have lost their sight.
The Blindsight device is designed to enable vision for those who have lost both eyes and their optic nerve, provided their visual cortex remains intact. Remarkably, it also holds the potential to grant sight to individuals who have been blind from birth.
Initially, the vision provided by the device will be low resolution, akin to Atari graphics, but it is expected to improve over time. The ultimate goal is to surpass natural vision, allowing users to see in infrared, ultraviolet, or even radar wavelengths, similar to the character Geordi La Forge from “Star Trek”.
Neuralink is calling on individuals to join their mission to restore sight. The company is actively seeking participants for their Patient Registry and has various openings on their career page.
