President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sworn in newly appointed commissioners who will serve on several of Zimbabwe’s independent Chapter 12 commissions.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at State House in Harare, with appointments covering the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC), Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC), Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC), Zimbabwe Land Commission (ZLC) and Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Those appointed to the ZMC are Susan Makore, Caesar Zvayi, Munyaradzi Hwengwere, Rufaro Ellen Mhandu, Thokozile Chitepo, Merit Thokozile Munzwembiri, Tapiwa Mashakada and Tanaka Muganyi.

The ZGC will have Cowen Dziva, Thokozile Ruzvidzo, Mildred Mushunje and Tsanangurai Chirau as commissioners, while Dr Leslie Ncube takes up the position of chairperson.

Former legislator Anele Ndebele has been appointed chairperson of the ZHRC. Sheuneni Kurasha has also been appointed as a commissioner at ZEC.

At the ZLC, Professor Mandivamba Rukuni will serve as deputy chairperson, alongside commissioners Dr Mabel Ndakaripa-Hungwe and Dr John Basera.

The officials are expected to begin carrying out their respective mandates following the formal swearing-in ceremony.
