CALABAR – Inspector Stephen Enang, a serving officer with the Nigeria Police Force, reportedly collapsed and died shortly after watching Arsenal defeat Real Madrid 3–0 in a football match that aired Wednesday night. The incident took place at a viewing centre located on Abang-Asang Street in Calabar, Cross River State.

Enang, attached to the Akim Police Division along IBB Way, was described by witnesses as highly animated during the game, celebrating each Arsenal goal with enthusiasm. According to an eyewitness, the inspector stood up several times in excitement and was in high spirits throughout the match.

However, moments after the final whistle, spectators noticed Enang remained motionless in his seat while others began to disperse. Attempts to revive him at the scene were unsuccessful, prompting an emergency transfer to the Police Hospital in Akim, where medical staff confirmed him dead on arrival.

The deceased hailed from Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State and was known among colleagues and friends for his passion for football and loyalty to Arsenal FC. The sudden nature of his death has left many shocked within the local law enforcement and broader Calabar community.

At the time of this report, efforts to reach the Cross River State Police Command spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, for an official comment proved abortive. Calls went unanswered and messages sent to her mobile device received no response. An official statement from the police is still pending
