A senior manager with Old Mutual allegedly r@ped a 23 year-old intern twice without protection as he threatened to withdraw her scholarship.
Musa Nyasha Dube Manyika has since appeared before Harare Magistrates’ Court where he was granted free bail. The case is under CRB HRE
1529/24.
Musa is the manager for Business Development at Old Mutual while the alleged victim is a third-year UZ student.
She started her undergraduate in 2022 under the Old Mutual Scholarship and while she was at the University of Zimbabwe sometime in November 2022, she was introduced to Manyika.
He was part of the Scholarship Committee and he later sent a message on a Sunday evening in November 2022 as he wanted her to assist him packing some banners at Old Mutual Gardens.
Allegations are that he went to pick her up from the university campus and went to his office where they packed the banners.
It is further alleged that after finishing packing the banners, he pushed her to the wall but she tried to fight back and screamed but no one came to her rescue.
Further allegations are that, he then pushed her on his table before pulling off her dress, skin tight and pant to the knee level.
He allegedly removed his shorts to the knee level and r@ped her without protection. Manyika apologised but threatened her that she would lose her scholarship if she was to tell anyone about the incident.
He allegedly gave the victim a branded Old Mutual bag, a juice bottle, and a cap.
The second alleged incident took place significantly later, on June 19th of this year. The State alleges that Manyika again contacted the complainant, this time arranging a meeting at Ashbrittle Shops.
He then allegedly invited her into his car, where, according to the prosecution, he engaged in int! mate acts without her consent.
This second allegation further strengthens the State’s case and raises concerns about a pattern of behaviour.
