Detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics unit in Harare intercepted a foreign-registered Toyota Quantum kombi transporting Broncleer cough syrup along the Harare-Bulawayo Road on April 1.

Acting on a tip-off, the detectives stopped the vehicle at Kadoma Toll Gate, leading to the arrest of 39-year-old Rodrick Chambe. The driver of the kombi managed to flee the scene and is currently at large.

Authorities recovered 42 boxes of Broncleer, each containing 50 bottles of 100ml, with an estimated street value of USD 16,400. Broncleer, which contains codeine, is often abused as a recreational drug.

Police have urged the public to report any information that could help in apprehending the fugitive driver and combating drug trafficking in the country.
