Authorities have issued a stern warning against the circulation of videos depicting the harassment of police officers, vowing to take legal action against those responsible. The move comes amid a surge in viral clips showing officers being manhandled by members of the public, raising concerns over growing defiance against law enforcement.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi emphasized that such acts are not only unlawful but also undermine the authority of the police. He cautioned that anyone found sharing these videos with the intent to ridicule or discredit law enforcement would face the full wrath of the law.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police will not tolerate any attempts to erode public confidence in law enforcement. We are closely monitoring these incidents, and arrests will be made,” warned Nyathi. He urged the public to respect officers and report grievances through legal channels instead of resorting to social media sensationalism.
With tensions between law enforcement and citizens escalating, this crackdown signals the government’s intent to maintain control. As digital platforms continue to shape public perception, the battle between online activism and institutional authority is set to intensify.
