President Emmerson Mnangagwa has fired long-serving Cabinet minister Sithembiso Nyoni, who was in charge of the Environment, Climate and Wildlife portfolio.

The announcement was made on Thursday night by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Martin Rushwaya, in an official statement.

“His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr. ED Mnangagwa, has in terms of section 340, subsection (1), paragraph (f), as read with section 108, subsection (1) paragraph (a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, removed Sithembiso Gile Gladys Nyoni from the position of Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife with immediate effect,” the statement read.

Nyoni, a veteran politician, has been a key figure in government for years, holding various ministerial positions. The reason for her dismissal was not stated, fueling speculation about internal shifts within Mnangagwa’s administration.

Her removal comes amid growing political reshuffles, with analysts predicting more changes in the coming weeks as the ruling party gears up for internal restructuring. Government officials have not yet commented on who will replace her.
