Cape Town – May 3, 2025 — Popular podcaster MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho is set to be summoned before Parliament following strong criticism over offensive remarks he made about television personality Minnie Dlamini.
The comments, made during an episode of his Podcast and Chill show, included speculation about Dlamini’s past relationships and crude suggestions about her personal hygiene. The remarks have sparked public outrage and have been described as sexist and harmful.
Deputy Minister for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, condemned the statements as “repugnant” and labelled them a form of online gender-based violence (GBV).
In a statement, Letsike said, “Such statements are not only degrading but also contribute to a culture of disrespect and abuse against women. They infringe on her constitutional rights to equality, dignity, and personal security.”
The Department of Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities confirmed that MacG will be called to appear before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities to account for his conduct.
Failure to comply with the summons could result in a fine or up to 12 months’ imprisonment. Legal experts are also reportedly exploring the possibility of laying a charge of crimen injuria — a criminal offence related to impairing someone’s dignity — against the podcaster.
