SA Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba and Limpopo Health MEC Ms. Dieketseng Mashego on Monday formally received a South African patient who had been urgently airlifted from Beit Bridge, on the border between Limpopo and Zimbabwe, after falling seriously ill while on a work assignment in Bulawayo.

The patient had reportedly been unable to access complete medical treatment in Zimbabwe due to logistical failures, further underscoring the critical state of healthcare services in the neighboring country.

Commenting on the incident, journalist Hopewell sharply criticized Zimbabwe’s healthcare system, warning that such cases reflect a broader systemic collapse. “Comrades, when I write about Zimbabwe being a failed state, some of you think that I am exaggerating, but this is our daily reality,” he said.

Hopewell added that widespread corruption had gutted Zimbabwe’s medical infrastructure, noting that the few cases he shares publicly represent only “the tip of the iceberg” of a much deeper crisis.
